Post Half Size G5RV Mod
Hi all, I have a half size G5RV which came down in the heavy snow (ropes broke). While it's down I was wondering if it was worth adding the inductors to it for 80mt. I have the inductor kit but will this cause problems with it's use on other bands and will the feeder need to be made longer. Thanks in advance John G6HFW. PS. with the inductor kit this would be the maximum length I could manage at my QTH :)

John,

Adding 80m inductors will certainly change the feed-point impedance on all the other bands. Just what that means for the antenna's performance largely depends on the length of the coax section and the losses incurred there. You can't recover the situation by adjusting the length of the ladder-line section.

As ever, you can avoid the most serious losses if you simply run the ladder-line all the way - or nearly all the way - back to the tuner. You would then have a multi-band loaded doublet.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I think I will try extending the ladder line as far as I can. Will pick some up at Blackpool.
Thanks again John G6HFW. :D
