Post GB2RS on 2m SSB
Hi all I am thinking of adding 2m ssb on my GB2RS news broadcast. I currently run 200 watts output to a vertical at 70 foot AGL on 145.525 MHz , Giving me 800 watts ERP. I am audible From Manchester to Bedford, Cheltenham to Lincoln also out to Cambridge and Telford! a decent fixed station should hear me!

My plan is to run 2 times 4 ele with about 400 watts erp to each . Fixed North west and East. I should be audible in GM and on the east coast of UK.

times are 20:30 local.

As it stands there is not a single GB2RS news broadcast above 30 MHz on ssb! I wonder what the interest would be?

Used to listen to it on 2M SSB back in GW, was quite popular - quite a few call-in after the news finished.

Used to listen to Tom Douglas G3BA years ago, when I lived in South Birmingham.
Local ones are not even worth listening for as my location is crap. And as for 40mtrs, well
thats just a joke, pair of clowns operating on behalf of the RSGB. Probably a couple of the
worst signals possible out of DL land.

Only vertical here for 2mtrs and 70cms, but I would try to listen. Have worked Coventry from here
on 2mtrs FM.

Another yes from me, though I will probably need an antenna to hear you :)

I have to agree, the audio from the normal German station is some of the worst I have heard, looking at the spectrum, there seems to be no lower middle frequencies in the audio, it is so thin sounding that it can't be heard properly unless the signal is very strong and you can use the IF shift to balance the audio.

It would be great to have something on 2M SSB

I have a hard act to follow as G3BA was the reader in years gone by. I should be audible in a very small aerial with you. Fm on 2m should be very loud.I hate to be Weak!

I've never heard a reader in the UK, so any I can hear without strain would be welcome!

I would have thought the ideal would have been for HQ to appoint some one to record the bulletin and on a Saturday evening email the .mp3 to various stations around the country for broadcast on Sunday. That way any one in the world could hear it fresh and clear in the best BBC English.
I guess it could even be transmitted on that never to be mentioned band :)

Seems that is a too complex solution

I'm amazed you can't hear any of the broadcasts.
Current list is here. https://thersgb.org/services/gb2rs/gb2rs-broadcast-schedule.pdf

The current system is fine.
Emailed out to the stations who read it out and then take reports.
No special equipment required and easy for substitute readers to take over.

It's, in the main, local - as in UK - so international transmission isn't that important, there'd be time issues anyway.

Cheers

Tony
