I would like to hear your views on the Elad FDM-DUO and what you think of the performance from such a basic unit, as a standalnone and hooked up to a PC.

Or should I place a deposit on the IC-7300 and stick with that?

Two very different radios, your needs and desires should clearly separate the two.

Thanks for the comment, albeit a little cryptic. I have placed a deposit for a IC-7300 but that could change when they come out and get reviewed by others.

At the moment i am using the ELAD DUO and will be also be buying the IC-7300,the ELAD is a low power radio with great software and can be used as a standalone unit. The two sets will be very different by comparison so its not really a straight forward answer i can give you.The ELAD is very easy to use via the software and computer but as a standalone radio i find it somewhat limited in functionality and front interface can become confusing. The icom will act more like a conventional radio than the ELAD does but you may find this also limiting as to a full spec stand alone SDR.The ICOM if you look at the spec the ELAD is a much more capable radio than the Icom could really ever want to be.From a software point of view the ELAD evolves with every update however the icom will be limited in a fashion as you will read from its spec."A major queston mark with the ICOM is It lacks some features such as separate HF and 6m ports. It does have a USB port that is described as rig control and audio, so it is entirely possible but not probable there will be some I/Q or downconverted IF output available there to feed an external SDR application. Is it more than likely it is just for digi modes?" "If the IC 7300 can match even the receive performance of a Flex 1500, it will be outperforming (according to Sherwood) currently available rigs of substantially higher price tag, albeit with no frills." Maybe that's the key feature set of the IC 7300. No frills. Potentially great receive performance. Good ergonomics. Low price.

The IC-7300 seems to be aimed at those who desire the SDR performance, but don't care to tie a PC to it.

Thanks for that, and the I/Q is what has me questioning my decision as I would like to be able to "multi use" the transceiver as you can with the ELAD, I guess time will tell with regards to what the options will be on the IC-7300 as so far things are a little vague to say the least from Icom.

Thanks for that information, I will wait until the end of March and if no 7300 then my money moves on.

Think you will find they pinched from a USA site and stuck their logo on it.

"But it says AT ML&S "

It certainly does give the impression but Dave in the other thread had phoned Lynches yesterday and surprise surprise no 7300 in the shop .Lynches wording is getting as bad as some of the other dealers .
