Post 10m wire/alloy dipole
Hi all,
I have a 10m-wire dipole in the loft; I’m planning on putting it outside but replacing the wire with 1” alloy tube, which I happen to have laying about.
My question is…will I have to make the elements smaller than the wire ones I have now because of the OD of the alloy?

Regards Ian

Thicker poles will mean wider bandwidth.......

It depends! Thicker elements need to be shorter than thinner elements for the same resonant frequency. But if your wire was insulated, that will have had a lengthening effect on the wire and you may end up with the tubing needing to be about the same length.

If you haven't got any way of adjusting the tubing length, cut it slightly long, measure the resonant frequency, and then use:

new length = (old length) x (old frequency) / (new frequency)
