Post Atas 120 help
I've been trying to get the atas 120 to work with my 857 d but no luck I have read about grounding but I don't think this is an issue as I am using it through a mount off the tow bar which bolts to the chassis

I have selected atas/hf in the menus but when I try to tune the antenna doesn't do anything and after 2mins of tuning it just stops giving me an error message hswr or similar indicating a coax fault

I've even tried a patch lead with moulded plugs

I'm trying the 857 from a power supply does it have to powered from the car to complete the grounding maybe ?

Thanks in advance

Does the antenna make any noise or move at all ?

Try keying the mic and pressing band up or down to manually move the antenna

What is the Voltage reading on the FT857 Display.
If its too low that Atas won't move.

Look up hidden menu Google
You press and hold abc buttons to get into it if I remember
There is and set up you can test stars up and down
And some mounts are not long enough to go in antenna far enough

Post Re: Atas 120 help
As above, I've had a problem with mine recently, it was due to poor grounding and a dodgy so239 mount.

Mine would t tune at as, no movement what so ever yet if unscrewed the atas half a turn it would.

I'd rule out the mount by trying it on a mag mount.

Cheers Paul

Atas Trimag mount.
2/70antenna, Diamond K-400 this mount was originaly for the Atas but on
a Vauxhall Astra Mk6 (J) there in no flat surface long enough for the
4 grub screws to get a grip on the tail gate and no way would I trust
2 grub screws to hold the mount and an Atas on the lip hence the Duel band antenna.
Atas ideal mount Diamond K- 400 without a doubt.

Removing the paint from the mount where the s0239 goes is a must and if possible an extra ground strap just to be sure.

Cheers

Its the grounding. What you have is probably great when you put a multimeter on it and do a continuity test, I bet it reads 0 Ohms. Only problem is that RF is AC, not DC that the meter uses and that reading isn't worth a toss.

I can tell you for 100% without even looking at the installation just by your description of the mount that you have almost no RF ground at all which means you've got a ton of common mode and it is that which is causing all your problems. You can put all the straps and wires on you want and remove all the paint you want but its not going to improve matters because its the metal directly under the antenna which matters and you've not got a lot.

The ATAS antenna is sensitive to common mode and the way you've mounted it is pretty much the worst way possible for this antenna save a magmount.
