Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
I'm also interested in this ,missed out on one last week with the warc bands on. I've been looking at either the 32A or the 32aw £350 and £450 which is far more than i would want to spend the 32aw was on offer last week on w&s but the offer price didn't go into the basket just the normal price. Looking at the spec there doesn't seem much more on offer with the 33.

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
As always the spec seems to be a bit optimistic but it's similar to the ma5b but without the capacitance rods which is less profile. And only 6ft boom seems to be very compact. Looking on eham it's a bit of a marmite antenna and it seems a bit hit and miss with QRO on the traps but it'd be nice to get some feedback first hand off someone who's hit or used one.

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
I'm looking forward to hearing from someone using the Mosley as well. Today with the ZX-Yagi MINI-2000 and not very happy :( Terribel to make working on 10m. 15m OK, 20m bad - but not terribel ... The Mosley looks very interesting, especially the mini33A-WARC, expensive though.

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
I was going to buy one, but I have Hy-Gain TH2-MK3, both antennas have similar boom lenght, both antennas have traps so dicide to keep hy gain, I think they both would perform similar due to short boom. Hy gain does the job but I am not impressed with it. Looking for hexbeam now and will put both on mast and test. Also mosley with warc bands has only rotatory dipole for warc...

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
Sorry guys...... i picked up a second hand mini 33aw last weekend. built it on a stub mast the other evening and hoping if i bribe the kids enough they will help me lower the mast, remove the HF5b and hoist the Mosley back into the air. my initial view is that it's not as sturdy as my old mosley elan trapmaster which was a three element 10 / 15 m beam just a touch smaller than a typical tribander but without the 20m band. So to have 5 band capability is of course a bonus, and as I'm 300w maximum, the lack of qro with the 33aw isnt a great worry. i will add to this thread once ive made some on air tests. (HF5B wiill be up for sale shortly ) Ian m0kcm

That was the one i missed out on, will be interesting to hear your thoughts on it compared to the HF5B.

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
True but on the other hand you must be hoping it does. By not as sturdy do you mean its flimsy, they do seem quite light weight ,any chance you could bend one of the elements over your knee to see how strong the aluminium is

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
My technical analysis was based on the amount of droopage on the elements. My old Mosley was as straight as a snooker cue. This 33aw drops by around three inches at the tips of the elements. ok to start with, a little history on my HF5B..... I bought in mid 2011 with the aim of working 20, 17 and 12 as my beam was only for 10 and 15m. Since then Ive worked around 200 dxcc, all 40 zones and all 50 US states. This is at a height of just 20 foot which is well below the recommended minimum. Yes it is directional, its also a very quiet antenna for noise level. Obviously the footprint is very small, which is a plus. I dont have enough space for a typical tribander as my yard is only 24 foot wide. Only two negative points in my opinion. Firstly the very well documented "taming of the beast". Finding resonance is a little like finding hens teeth. But once its under control, there are no issues. The other one is remembering which way to beam on which band. 10, 15, 20 forwards, 12 off the back of the beam, and 17 is just the dipole. Only an issue if you band hop..... what am i hoping for? P5 first call No seriously, a little more directivity and not much else really. Ice cream van just stopped outside the house, so although my sons are all 18+ they wont help with the mast without bribery first. Ian

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
Ok, update time..... So I didn't read the crappy instruction book. Coax is connected to the warc element instead of the triband driven element. The MFJ259C tells me that on 10, 15 and 20 metres I'm resonant around 800khz above where I want to be, but on 12 and 17M I'm bang on the nail. Yesterday I had a couple of hours to kill, so with the aid of an auto tuner, I had a play on psk and rtty. 20M wasn't playing very well, so only managed IS0 All the other bands were doing well. A4, OH, YU, ZA and ER on 15M, A6 and HI8 on 12M, UR on 10, Several US states on 17 (CT, PA & NC). GM1BSG on 17 rtty for an all time datamode new bandslot. As for today on 17M RTTY, V31MA first call (new datamode bandslot), and T88XH after 3 calls for an all time, all mode new one. Plan 1 - correctly attach the coax (waiting for helpers as they don't like rain) Plan 2 - more height.

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
Sounds good but how do you rate it compared to the HF5b? looking at photos you can tell the coax is connected to the warc element, what a Muppet , looks like another ice cream run.

Noise floor with the Mosley is slightly lower. F/b is more noticable with the Mosley too. Transmit wise, too early to tell. I guess I need a really big pile up to try and break. Ian

Re: Anyone tried the Mosley 33a mini beam?
Just a little update now I've had a couple of months up in the air. I genuinely feel it is working better than the old HF5B. There are more Oceania contacts in my logbook than ever before including half a dozen new iota groups for me involving some pretty big pile ups. Even managed to work ZL on 15m at midnight which was a new experience for me. Moving from two elements to three I'm finding the beam heading does need to be accurate as the lobe drops off fairly sharp. The wind rattles the elements around quite alot, so I stand by my original flimsy comments. It'll be lowered to the ground to avoid damage where the old beam stayed aloft no matter how strong the gusts.
Due to my posting in another forum regarding an rfi complaint (started before i swapped beams), ive dropped my power down so its betwen 30 and 60 wattts depending on the mode. Still making contact with everyone Im trying to work. Conclusion. Happy with purchase and if minibeams are in your sights, then its a serious contender.

I do concede they are a bu**er to get working correctly, just had to buy an antenna analyser after restringing my HF5B (loss of gain on 15 and 12m )!
