There used to be a guy selling cobweb parts on ebay, but I've just had a look and can't find his listings now

There are LOTS of cheapo fishing rod blanks on ebay if you want to stick with fibreglass, but there are some good alternatives to found in gardening centers and DIY stores.

I bought some plastic coated canes that were intended for growing runner beans up or some such, and they are surprisingly strong, and weather proof too. They were about £2 each from B&Q.

I've found 25mm nylon rods but they are quite expensive!

It's a bloody minefield!

Will give that a go. I assume I'll have to do each piece in two pieces, so it's finding ones that fit inside each other!

I recently completed construction of a Cobweb and got most of my fibreglass rods/tubes from East Coast Fibreglass Supplies (Google). They seem to be the cheapest in this field although comparatively expensive when compared to garden canes which sag and move about too much.

If i remember ok,amtools have all the bits for a cobweb and not expensive.They are at halton(runcorn) rally today.Hope this helps.Stu.

Thanks guys! I've used amtools before for toroids, the descriptions aren't the best for the fibreglass pieces, and didn't want to get the wrong thing! Have emailed him to clarify regards the dx5 pole kit.

but as in another thread ...don't buy one of the MCR666 ones ...they are dreadful.

On a good day i think you could find a genuine used cobwebb for £100 and by the time you have bought the rods, drilled them
bought the wire, cut it, screws, junction box, drilled mounting plate, u bolts, 239 connector, made your balun ...etc etc ...you might find yourself wishing you hadn't! bothered.

I bought one and completely refurbished it ...although i didn't have to ...I wanted to get it back to "new" ...I was picking fibreglass out of my fingers for over a week!

Good when they are up though ..if you need any advice tuning it ...let me know ...i can pop over "wif me analyser"

Building it's the best bit!

Once I've ordered the rods/toroids the bits will stand me at £70, so not bad for a new one.

I'm going for G3TXQ's single wire version too since the wire's in abundance!

My mates got an analyser and a pillar drill so once I've got it all, and after my exam, I'll be mithering him!

I used 4 3M fishing poles from a sports shop... £3 each !

I may just go that way myself!

The guy from Amtools seems to be taking ages to tell me the gauge of the rods! These with the toroids are the bulk of the cost...

Just FYI, I ended up getting some 15mm solid fibreglass ex army support poles off Ebay.

10 x 3ft = £36 delivered.

Trust me, these things ain't snapping!

Just gotta get time to build the thing now!
