Post Mosley Mini-33AW your thoughts please
looking towards buying a mini beam for HF i think my dual pro beam has took me as far as it can.Just wanting something with a bit of gain to help me out,im leaning towards a Mosley Mini-33AW 10,12,15,17,20 just wondering what your thoughts are on this beam or if you,v owned one.Iv read a lot about the beam and seems to be what im looking for but first hand information is better i think.

thanks in advance john

Hi John,

I've no experience of it, myself.

I expect you've read all the reviews - common themes seem to be that it's not built as sturdily as the regular Mosley beams, and that it can be tricky to tune. But neither of those is a reason not to buy.

I used a mosley TA33 jr n WARC for several years and it performed quite well for its size, build quality was ok though I did have trouble with the 10m traps when operating QRO. I've no direct experience of the Mini-33 but I would be happy to use mosley again if my quad got damaged.

Hi John, I have the TA-63-m up at the moment, 20,17,15,12,10 and 6m great antenna, well built and solid. Front to back isn't all it could be but hey it saves turning it round 180 degrees  Its coming down next weekend to be replaced by a 3 el SteppIr. It would sit nice on the top of your mast ;) I also have the 40m add on kit as well but that makes it quite large

Mail order from US me thinks....I got a quote last year for the mini but ended up building a 3 band moxon instead, cheaper and no traps.

Heres the quote.....exchanges currently about £460 which if worked as described I would have been happy but reviews were quite dated and mixed on qrz.com. Not sure about duties and taxes perhaps someone else who has imported one might know. If they have a UK or EU distibutor I could not find it otherwise I probably would have had one.

---- Quote ----

Dear MM0ZBH,

Shipping $120.07 USD (duties and taxes not included, if applicable.)

WOW. That's expensive but slightly worrying that they don't have dealers over here. Even small companies like TGM have dealers in the UK.

Pricey, and that's not including 20% VAT

Wimo appear to distribute Mosley in the EU but they look even more expensive!

Andy - I wasn't aware of that about Wimo, it just seemed a bit of unknown risk but without wanting to seem like banging on about it my Moxon is just fine, I strung some inverted v dipoles for 12/17 over the top of the frame for those bands so I am covered. And for those not into Moxons then as Trev has just pointed out there is the Hex option. In retrospect £600+ for a mini beam (Mosley, TQM or whatever) is bit excessive for a few db's in my opinion so I am glad I never did it.

What I am saying is you can do quite a bit with some wire, potentially with slightly better performance and a damn lot cheaper.

They look ugly. And it's laughable to say they are small.
