Recieve Antenna Help
Looking for some advice here my garden is 40m in length and 6 m wide as in some posts on 160m forums they say any rx antenna is better than none therefore I have 2 options firstly to try a EWE shaped antenna with both vertical section at 15 ft and 38ft horizontal aiming it west towards USA or secondly but not sure if it will work a 135ft beverage down the length of the garden.I know this isnt long but any feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Recieve Antenna Help
A third option would be a Wellbrook Loop, for RX. They are outstanding at LF and HF for RX. 1m diameter and simply unreal once heard. Ill never part with mine, in fact Ive just bought a second one Using the wire to TX on and the loop to RX on, I hear signals on the loop that are simply not audible on a wire such is the noise level. http://www.wellbrook.uk.com/antennashop ... duct_id=60Im still looking for a link I had where it showed the audio and RX signal compared to a wire. Once I find it Ill post a link here

Re: Recieve Antenna Help
Terry, have you used the ALA 100, the outdoor type with the larger wire diameter, I've found YouTube videos of the wire loops turning in the air but none showing the nulls, wouldn't you have thought a video showing how it performed would've been better. I've been hankering for the larger wire version a while now.

I've been hankering for the larger wire version a while now. No I havent Gerry, I dont have the space. I use my loop on a small rotator so I can null out strong signals too. Its better on RX than my wire on all bands below 15m Above that its on a par with the Cobwebb, but with the advantage of null and rotation. For utility and SWL there is nothing to touch it in my opinion. It took me a long time to actually part with £200 for a loop on ally and a pre amp. But once Id heard one, I had to get one. Outstanding antenna.

Re: Recieve Antenna Help
I don't think it will work as a Beverage, it's just too short. That antenna at that height on 160 Mtrs will be a cloud warmer without any directivity at all, apart from straight up. If I was just using it as a receive antenna then I think I would just put as much wire up as I could and use that. Not forgetting to put a counterpoise out and use an isolated matching unit so that the antenna isn't going to use the house wiring as part of the antenna, which will contribute noise. Something like this: http://www.ok1rr.com/index.php/antennas ... dp-antenna

Re: Recieve Antenna Help
When I worked Topband I think it was Tony G4ZCG used the EWE to good effect.

Re: Recieve Antenna Help
i have one for sale, but its pick up only, or send your own Currier, once you use a loop for receiving you wont want to go back to bits of wire etc,
brilliant for top band to 10 mtrs,

brilliant for top band to 10 mtrs, Is your's not the version using a small solid diameter loop whereas the one I'm considering uses a larger diameter circumference made from wire?
