I should be okay for Friday 25th. Might be an idea to choose a frequency other than 144.300 and post it in this thread.

I guess you mean that you are going to meet on 144.300 and then QSY....otherwise you might make the net the most unpopular net on 144Mhz ;-)

Somewhere a bit down the band would be better, and if you are down there I might pop in and say hello

Picking a frequency would be a good idea as, once the first two people make contact they must move from .300 leaving everyone else wondering where they are.
Please remember there are other spot frequencies that could be a problem.
I remember coming across a net on 144.370 :? :x
There's also the "all modes" section that could be used.

At the moment I might be away in the camper but things change so quickly here that might change several times by then.
Even so I might still be on /P

What sort of time were you thinking of?
Cheers

Tony

Would that be upside, flatside or freestyle?

So many questions, so few answers.....

Please don't get me going.
Three meaningless words, in one sentence, must be a record. :D
For good technical reasons, all modes are more effective with horizontal polarisation.
Vertical polarisation came along, with the advent of repeaters, to enable the base stations to co-exists with PMR and to enable simple mobile installations.

I don't have any verticals in use here on any band.
I did, at one time do some experiments but they have been long removed.

So, anyone using verticals is going to be around 26dB down at this QTH.

Cheers

Tony

True, but no less annoying.
Would "freestyle" be circular polarisation then?
Left hand or right hand?

Cheers

..Some years back, I was in an Egyptian taxi, and a fellow passenger inquired whether the Egyptians drove on the left or the right. We decided it was 'freestyle'. .... so to answer your question, in polarisation terms, freestyle would be LH/RH circular or antennae tilted at a jaunty 45 degrees to mitigate polarisation losses and, of course, those unfortunates who have to load up a coathanger to radiate a signal. All of which are acceptable, as any signal is better than no signal. Some radiation sources are just trickier to optimise your beam heading.

I have aways found it strange to listen to some folks on say 2m FM. They say lest qsy to SSB so they go onto 144.3. They then QSY once more to another QRG. Rather silly I think!

Post Re: A WEEKLY 2 MTR SSB NET
I think many of the things that happen on the VHF bands, of recent years, is down to a fundamental lack of understanding by some trainers, and, therefore, incorrect or insufficient information being passed on.
Add that to the fact that there doesn't seem to be a culture of listening anymore and, I suppose, some of the odd things you can hear are inevitable. :(
FM, in the beacon and SSB segments, no effort with antennas, poor choice of feeder, bands considered as "local only", local (as far as I'm concerned,) stations replying to CQ DX calls, CB type lingo etc. :(

The reason for my putting effort into this section is to try and make people aware that 200/300km contacts on bands 6M to 13cm, even with moderate power and installations, is normal and not dependent on enhanced conditions.

Cheers

Tony

I assume the choice of frequency is a humourous comment to be followed by the real frequency.
