Post Recomended home made antennas for 2 mtrs & 6 mtrs for loft
As it says any Recomended home made antennas for 2 mtrs & 6 mtrs for loft mounted

2 mtrs wont be used much
But would like to try abit on 6 mtrs

Also my current half size g5rv is dead

Any sugestions on an inverted L
only have a small rear garden cant have
Any large poles up apart from the one for my 20a mtr antenna

I have a 4 meter pole hid by a tree which
I can go up with a wire across to the garage
Then over to my gutter so be 4 mtrs vertical
8 mtrs across then 8 mtrs to the gutter line
Hoping for 80/40 mtrs any sugestions

Rather make them my self than buy
As at some point i be changing qth
To a bigger country garden

Thanks for help gary

I don't think a long wire would be the answer on either 2m or 6m.

For 6m the best you could probably do for a simple home made would be a dipole, and that would only be about 3m total, nounted in the best place you could for your preferred direction.

If it is going outside, a Moxon may fit in, and would give better results.

For 2m, a collinear, slim jim, flower pot antenna, 5/8 vertical, small beam would probably all fit.

It is a bit confusing though, the title says the loft, then you described the garden :)

The garden size is for an inverted L style antenna to get me on 80 / 40
I want to use the loft for the 6 mtr and 2 mtr antennas

A quad band colinear will get you on 6,4, 2 & 70, height 1.2m

https://www.mirfield-electronics.co.uk/ ... -colinear/

Edit: sorry not home made, but an easy option to get you on air for not a lot of money

Last time I had loft mounted antennas I used the following;
For two and 70 an old Comet mobile dual band colinear for those bands mounted on a ground plane made out of an old discone stub with through connection barrel clamped through the stripped out main hub, and cut to resonance 2/70 radials.
For six meters squeezed in a home made quarter wave ground plane, same for 4 meters, all spaced out around the loft.
I also added inverted V's for 6 meters, 4 meters, and ten meters, selectable with a three way relay switching system to a common feed line, they were clipped to the "V" of the rafters, and to be fair that whole lot worked quite well for loft mounted antennas at that location.

For VHF it really depends on what modes you are using.

If it's just local FM a vertical will do.
If it's SSB you need horizontal polarisation.
Then it's down to the size of the loft, beam or omni?

Cheers

Tony

The quad band antenna works as good as a dummy load and very high swr.
6 MTRS make a inverted v dipole works well from my loft
