Post Re: Dx
This will possibly be missed here as it’s for VHF, and up in frequency, Downing’s wavelength, postings.

Cheers

Tony

Yes. The headings are confusing and illiterate, much like the originator and constant defender.

They need to be:
"HF ... below 30MHz".
and
'VHF ... Above 30MHz".

It's not that we don't understand, it's more that he speaks gibberish.

Really?
I’ll ignore the drunken rambling.

What’s confusing about
HF - more than 10M in wavelength.
VHF - less than 10M in wavelength.

Or am I to assume that you never refer to bands in wavelengths? Is 80M always 3.5MHz to you, or is it 3.6MHz?
Sorry, I forgot, you're probably not active, so many on here seem not to be.

Sorry you think G5UM was illiterate.

Cheers

Tony

He didn't say G5UM was illiterate Tone!
He's probably just frustrated waiting with baited breath for the "Memories of" series of posts to ever appear! :D
Wavelength in meters versus frequency in Hz?, as long as you remember they move in opposite directions numerical size wise, you can't go wrong really!

No, correct, however we can't all tell in an instant that you will be on 7.1455 Mcs at 11:00GMT in metres.

Although both are correct, frequency is more intuitive to most people.

Meters to me was always the "ball park" area to aim at, someone would say "40 meters" or whatever is open, and you might venture there, knowing its allocated to us upper and lower frequency limits, but once actually "there" you instantly thought of that section in terms of "frequency" usually, unless there is something mathematically strange about your thinking! :D
You never arrange a "sked" on "X.XXXXXXXX" meters, you arrange it on "Y.YYY" MHz! ;)

I have a memory of him, I spoke to him in person twice, and the old log books bear testament, still couldn't tell you a lot about the guy though, as they were just passing typical 2 meters chats! :D
And that is the sum total of my "memories" of the chap, other than any written word he penned in various radio related publications.

I really should wear my glasses as I read that as you spoke to him twice in prison!

Do enlighten us, what subject? :D
"Do you think in meters or MHz?" perchance? ;)
I have to say, for an initially misplaced OP, its the liveliest thread in this section for a while!
