Post Ic7300 / panadaper ?
Icom ic7300 and pan adapter ? Anyone use such a combination ? Have one off these Noolec SDR receiver dongles here and my and plan isvto add the French made Rx ant board to the 7300 to allow me to use it as a panadaper with suitable software . Anyone recommend a suitable software ? Am I correct in saying I can still txrx sad normal with this arrangement or is it it for Rx only ? Like the look off the HDSDR software but not sure if it's just for use with these play receivers ?

Not a thing that I have done myself but a friend of mine decided against getting the little plugin board and solved this problem by buying the MFJ 1708SDR which works very well indeed!

Only had a 7300 for a short time, but believe that it was possible to use the N1MM software to give you a panadapter

I've no idea what the french thing is, but the MFJ 1708SDR is just a relay with switching circuit. (you could use my linear switching circuit idea)

If the french thing is for a separate RX antenna, it might not switch correctly. Different changes needed.

The 1708SDR just acts like a T- connector in the receive line, and provides no isolation between the two receivers. It also divides the impedance by two, providing 25 OHms at each rcv. port.
The newer 1708B-SDR version includes a splitter that provides isolation and the correct 50 OHm impedance at each receive port. It's more expensive of course.

From MFJ's web site:-

RF Sensed TR Switches with a receive splitter designed to be used with a transceiver and a separate receiver such as the popular SDR receivers. The Splitter gives high isolation between the transceiver and SDR Receive port to reduce crosstalk and interference between the two ports. The SDR port has a protection circuit to help prevent damage from transmit RF. Has a stripline PCB reducing the SWR up through 450MHz and improved isolation for better receiver protection.

RF Sensing for radios that do not have a keying output when transmitting

Good Isolation between transmit and receive ports

Excellent isolation between Transceiver and SDR Receive Ports.

Good SWR characteristics up to 450MHz

Receiver protection circuit to limit any transmit RF spikes.

Control Line input for radios that have a key line output.

An AUX output that can be set to ground to receive or ground to transmit

Power off bypass sets the transceiver to the antenna

Adjustable receive delay 50ms to 4 seconds.

$109.95 in the USA
£99.95 at W & S. No surprise there.

What I have done with my 7300 is to tap in to the amplified RX line just after the band-pass filters, using a 10 pF ceramic disc cap. This feeds a cheap Chinese buffer amp. board (around £5) which then feeds an SDRPlay. I use SDRUno software, and have a high-res. 27" Panadapter display.
Not my original idea. Tim G6GEI supplied the idea and details. He has done the mod. on a 7100 also. If you contact him I'm sure he'll help.

Somebody has just created a no soldering RF out extension that fits inside the 7300 and is easily removed. $145+ $7 shipping.

DX Lab Suite does the same. Also check out Win4Icom Suite (not free though, but does have a trial period)

If you want to spend $152 on a mod. that can be done for £5 then fill your boots. You have to open the radio to fit that board anyway, so how difficult is it to solder one end of a 10pF capacitor to a pad on the board?

I'm now using the Spectrum display function in DX Commander with my IC-9700. It's excellent. Nice big display on my laptop now. I'm now considering buying a cheap Windows tablet just to run DX Commander, and to sit it above the 9700.

There are a couple of companies make a kit to feed rx outside of the 7300, simple mod, just pull off a connection and put one on.
Inrad do the RX7300 and a clone of this is available on Ebay as well, better in my view as it has sma connections not phono. about £25
Search RX7300 you will find them, and some youtube videos showing how to fit and how to use.
I had one on mine and connected a Sdrplay dongle, that was brilliant. p.s. you do need to 't' off for the dongle, you can just use a sma T piece or get a mini circuits rf splitter suitable for HF.
