Post DStar with Hotspot help
Hi, I hope someone out there can answer my query.
I have a Icom ID-51 which I have set up for Dstar operation and managed to get a couple of contacts.
I want to use it from my UK address and unfortunately I don't have good access to my nearest repeater (Amersham) GB7AU.
So bought a DV Mega hotspot which said it would give me what I need. It works well with DMR
But I don't know how to set that up, I have searched the usual sources without success.
So what I need is someone who has already done this and can tell me the magic method, or tell me where to find it.
Thanks in advance
Cliff

Hi Cliff,

Is it a DVmega which sits on a Raspberry Pi, or a Bluestack one that talks to your phone/tablet using Bluetooth?

Either one can do D-Star, they just need to be set up differently.

FWIW, if it's the Raspberry Pi one, Google Pi-Star, that lets you get up and running very quickly indeed.

Hi Stephan, it's a BlueDV which is connected to my PC by USB cable.
When I double click the icon, the window says "BlueDV for Windows"
Set up for DMR is easy.

Hi All, surely I can't be the only person using this setup!
I have the basic DStar radio working, all I need is the setup parameters for the DVMega.
If I am trying the impossible tell me what you use and I can change direction.
Help please.
Cliff

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

The BlueDV for Windows application sorts all the settings out for you, you just toggle the D-Star slider under the DMR slider. Nothing else to add AFAIK.

You can also take the dvmega off the Bluestack board and plug it on to a Raspberry Pi running Pi-star. That is also simple to set up, with lots of online videos.

Thanks Stefan, if only it were that easy!
In the setup menu, under DStar Module the initial value was set to D
Since I am using UHF 439,700 I also tried changing this to B
APRS is unchecked
Enable at start is checked
Default reflector is DCS600A although I have tried REF001
No response from the Hotspot.
Just using the radio on its own on 439,700 I can get into GB7AU if I go to a nearby hill.
I just need to trigger the Hotspot when I am in the shack.

Cliff if you had called me i could have told you the information you are looking for! YOUR call sign is NOT registered to use REF - you need to register your call sign to be able to use REF - you can use XLX - DCS REF with out being registered! If you go to DCS005B and put a call out, you will see that you can TX --- :) Karl

If you go here and put your call sign in you will see your not registered - http://query.ke5bms.com/index.php
