Post First time using D-Star
I've been trawling through endless videos just to get a grasp on things. I believe I can do some sort of echo test on the repeater for testing purposes as per this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAdizwHKpDI

I'm struggling to get it to work. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance

Russ

I wrote a big piece about DMR only see you ment D Star, :banghead:

Depending on your rig there should be an echo option on the menu,

What rig are you using??

And I'm assuming you can hear the repeater or at least know it's active

Post Re: First time using D-Star
Hi Trevor, thanks for the reply. I have an Icom 7100. Ive got the repeater setup in the channels. GB7BP. I've just started to listen to the repeater to see if I hear any activity on it. I've been out all day so I haven't had chance to listen today. I'm trying to decypher if I am doing something wrong or the repeater is not active. It currently says it is operational. In the video I watched she said you could use talkback to test if everyting was working ok. Is that correct? Will it play the audio back to me? Is that how it works? I select the channel and then put it in DV mode. I do see CQCQCQ on the dispaly when I tranmit. I could be simply I am not reaching the repeater but I am transmitting on 50w and im not exactly a million miles away.

In the video you can add the 4 channels and all 4 are on the same frequency but with different prefix's at the end. The one i'm choosing being the E.

It shows here adding this channels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAdizwHKpDI&t=601s

from about 6 mins onwards

I have just read your post and you say you are listening to GB7BP but that repeater is in Milton Keynes, but you are in Stoke On Trent, if that is correct there is no chance you will hit that one

Hi Russ

I will try to point you in the right direction, It's a while since I had a 7100 and I never used D-Star on it,

Firstly you need to set up the repeater in the list correctly,

When in DR mode select it from the List, All UK D-Star Repeates should be preprogrammed into the rig if not they can be added to a sd card and put on the rig, I think the file is on Icom UK's site,
Click From and then repeater list and so on till you find it,

Then click on TO and echo (e) should be in the one of the lists if not try (I) that should give you the status of the repeater,

Have a look at this video it is very good,

Thanks

I've finally caught some activity on GB7JF! I'll give it a go over the weekend at trying to use D-Star :-)

Post Re: First time using D-Star
I've now added the GB7JF repeater into the DV of my 7100. It wasn't in the list on the import using RT Systems. I'm trying to connected to that particular repeater but although I'm transmitting into the repeater, I am not getting any response back. I've registered my callsign and I've had an email saying it has been registered. Is there anyway of verifying this?

Post Re: First time using D-Star
Looks like I am registered with GB7IC. And reading previous posts that should give me access to all D Star repeaters. I must be doing something wrong.

Got my From repeater as GB7JF B. The To says use repeater.

When I transmit, the display shows UR:CQCQCQ.

When you unkey do you get anything back from the repeater along the bottom of the screen,

Did you try switching the "to" to I for the repeater to give it's info, that video I posted is very good if you haven't looked at it yet,

If you just use cqcqcq and it's not linked to reflector it's unlikely you will get an answer unless someone local is listening

That's the video's I have been watching to setup D-Star. I'm pretty damn sure I have everything setup correctly. Just a question, what does the DV-A mean? I have DV at the top of my screen.

Also, I'm only trying to connect to the repeater locally and not via a reflector. If I transmit, should I get some sort or response back from the D-Star repeater?

Sorry Russ have not been online that much, yes you should get something back from the repeater,

I will fire up my 9700 in the next day or 2 give it a go on D-Star (12hrs shifts at the mo so no time for radio when I get in) I am going on memory here and it's been a while,

Did you look for the I option to get the repeater status, even if it is not connected to a reflector it should say "not linked"

Have you manually entered the repeaters or are you working from the file on Icoms website,

When you say you heard activity what was it?

Trevor

Hi Trevor, I did follow the video but couldn't get it to work. I defo heard D-Star on my 7100 via GB7JF. I could tell by the audio. When I key up, I get nothing back. I'm not trying to open a reflector, only trying to get into the repeater. The GB7JF says doesn't look like its online but it must be if I am hearing it. I've got the frequency right. I might have to see if I can find someone local to advise me.
