Any progress?

Nope, ran out of time and money.
Back on it in the new year.

Rob this is like Hilbering's PT8000, everyone waiting with anticipation but he himself was in no rush to release it. :)

I know what you mean Gerry, I might have to get a glass cabinet and cobble it together just for show :)
The receiver is finished and the control modules are also ready, just need to assemble the boards and wire them up - then make a start on the TX boards, however if I sneak any more gear from Ebay, RS components and odd looking packages in from China, Lisa will probably punch me in the face - I will wait until the middle of January before I restart the build.

Hello Dave,
My names also Dave and im G0 AYD. all my hf gear is homebrew but mines from the stables of G3 WPO from way back in the mid 80s all bought off Ebay and all running reliably thanks to a local friend, ive carpel tunnel so building is now out for me.Im admiring your building skills and knowledge and like the others cant wait to see the finished radio. I emigrated down here in 1967 from the Lake district,I was told the streets were paved with gold all I found was discarded chewing dog ends.

SEASONS GREETINGS.

Quick update:
Got the SSB exciter exhaling clean RF at 70MHz, only 8dBm which is enough to listen to on the 7300, bandscope shows a nice, sharp signal no splatter and the audio sounds good.

Next step is to get the TX driver power amplifer built which will deliver about 20dBm for the PA stage.

Managed to get +20dbM (100mW) out of the transmit exciter, simple change of a 100R to 15R resistor in the emitter of the pre-driver transistor, changed the balanced modulator balance pot to give a further 20dB carrier suppression and improved audio response.
Listening to the output on both the 7300 and the SDR dongle it sounds pretty decent, no splatter and the compressor is doing a good job of keeping it tight even when being over driven from the mic gain too high.
Next stage mount the PCB's into the chassis and finish the receiver off, I can almost see the finish line!

Getting close Kelvin, just wiring legwork exercise now and maybe a little nudging in the right direction :)
Look forward to hopefully working you and I might even make some special QSL cards to celebrate the radio.

Looking good, lot of hard work gone into it!

I'd be interested to see your ALC circuit, I don't think audio derived ALC is very good.

Thanks Steve, the ALC circuit for the transmitter is still on paper (just need to etch the board) but the AGC circuit for the receiver is based on W7ZOI Hybrid cascode IF Amplifier which I made several modifications to suite my application.
See the AGC circuit below and also the ALC circuit - the AGC works very well indeed and has a very fast attack time.

Currently TX power is varied by using a pot which controls the gain of the 10.7MHz TX IF strip, however when the ALC circuit is implemented I will use that ALC to control the power.

Interesting, see you have included SWR protection as well.

The TX power on the bitx doesn't really need any control, but I will have a manual control to vary the CW power.

I was thinking of using the MC1350 for both in the final version, when I will add a linear, or even a different 30-50W PA

I will be using a tandem swr bridge with a binocular core, work well and nice and small.

After all that hard graft I need to unpick the wiring, disassemble front panel and discard the OLED display.
The display looks really good and has the exact features I wanted, unfortunately the display has a very noisy switching regulator/inverter which just renders the receiver useless.
I have a couple of LCD displays I can test, to be honest I never tested the OLED near the receiver before I commit ed to use it and foolishly assumed it would be ok.
