Post Cheap LED voltage meter ?
Guys trying to find one of these cheap two wire ( sub £10 ) plastic boxed LED readout volt meters that can be powered by up to 54 volts and readout up to the same. Found a few that will handle / readout such voltages ie. Up to 100v or so but can’t be powered at anything more than around 30v max.

Anyone found one ? Ideally would measure amps as well .

Use a 7824 regulator to feed it?

Power it off a suitable voltage regulator, or simple zener diode and series resistor circuit come to that, they don't require a lot of current.
Don't forget a suitable capacitor across its output if going for the latter, as zeners can generate noise if their output is unsmoothed.

Thanks guys no big problem just wondered if there was an of the shelf meter available. Use one on my other 2x 12v psu a d they are great for what they are. Could power it from the 12v psu next to it but not sure if you get a seperate mini lead to hook up to the item requiring measuring ?

A thanks for that looks as if it will be okay. As I say anything similiar advised a max supply voltage of 30v.
See if I can find the same but a non round shape version :)

I have several of the square voltage readout units in different sizes on my odds and sods box and recently made up a unit to read battery voltages.

I also utilised one for a distribution panel on my work bench so I can raise and lower the voltage from my psu to suit whatever project I am building.

They are readily available from Will at Bowood Electronics, not sure what max volts they are designed to handle but a call to him will put you right.

https://www.bing.com/search?q=bowood+el ... &PC=SCOOBE

Tell him I referred you but don't blame me if he charges you double...lol

Hi John. Would 30v do for the application you have in mind?

If so, and you have any problem finding one then let me know and I can send you one of mine with pleasure.

I am expecting to go visit Will at Chesterfield in the next few days so should be no problem replacing.

That's very kind of you and much appreciated unfortunately the psu that I want to use it with runs from 47 to 53.5v.

Ok, so then can you somehow utilise one of the inexpensive digital multimeters which are offered from about £7.99 upwards on ebay?

Post Re: Cheap LED voltage meter ?
Have dropped a message to the seller that was linked to earlier but as I say most of the ones that will measure up to say 100v only seem to accept a max supply power of 30v .

No real issue will just use me test meter just be good to have a readout of the voltage as I go

Found one that has three wires, red black and white, I take it you could power it via a seperate power supply ie 12v by use of the red and black wires and the test voltage of the second psu is picked up by way of attaching the white coloured wire to positive on that psu ?

It’s the first one I have seen that has three wires from the unit itself ….bit confusing that a lot will say it can measure up to say 100v but can’t be powered by anymore than 30v without killing it !!

Think about it as a unit like any multimeter set on DC volts range, to get a reading it has a battery of some description inside it to power the screen display and electronics doing the measuring, then it has flying test leads set on a voltage range which will read up to whatever the voltage range maximum it is capable of reading on that range and cause it to be displayed.
Those stand alone little DC voltage display boards quoting 30 volts max supply/read up to 100 volts are basically the same, they require a permanent DC supply to power the electronics and display driver, of no more than 30 volts via a couple of board connections, and they also will have input connections where any to be measured DC voltage is applied, that reads whatever applied voltage you want it to display up to whatever max they rate it as capable of reading and displaying, ie 100 volts in the case of the ones you have found.
So one supply is fixed and has a min/max voltage for actually powering its electronics, the other inputs are the test pins and will read and display whatever voltage requiring reading is applied to them up to its max range.
