Were at it again upgrading the Quagi to a Octagi

To recap a Quagi is a reflector and driven elements in Ali 6mm tuning Square Loop forms FW 2m in this case and the other 7 elements are Yagi. Hence the Term Quagi. The hybrid of a Quad and Yagi combined

The Octagi is going to be again 9 El 2m beam BUT will have Octagon shaped elements FW for 2m. Again a Hybrid of a hybrid.
In this case there will be 5 Quad elements but in 8 sided shapes hence the octagon and elements 6 to 9 will be Yagi again. Over all a tad little more gain and slightly narrower beam and slightly shorter boom. And may be after seeing it works change the last 4 elements to octagon elements. Thus the Octiquad will be born.

The main reason to do this is to at a later date add a 4 wire element 6m quad to same boom so it becomes a dual VHF beam. Plus kinda do the wire form first so locals get used to it and laters date change the wire quad wires to 8mm Ali tubing in 8 sided shape elements.

Don't really have mush use for Vert polar as perfer Hoz in this case.

Next year like to try get on 4m and add the elements on same boom to convert it into a Tri band VHF Octaquad beam for 4m 6m and 2m.

All part of i have a cunning plan for VHF one boom/ one antenna covering at least 3 bands of VHF.

If you round off the angles just a tad more you will have a loop yagi.

Yep

Problem being trying to form a loop that looks good and not wonkey donkey not easy.
But Octagons you can get away with.
Plus its different in sky line how many Octagon antennas do you see

Latest is its up built and working ok.

Next Job is the next upgrade and convert the last 4 elements to Octagonal Quads and add 2 more turning it into a 11 El for 2m.

Then the main up grade add 4 El Quads for 6m for same boom. Dueling up the antenna to 2 bands.

Friend of mine is going the 2 fw loop round shapes quad but using brake pipe.

Finally got around to finishing the up grade to the Octagi antenna.
Its now a Octiquad 11 Elements.

8kg
1.4m shorter than the Quagi original
3.44m boom.

Just got get me rig back from the Doctors and get some on air testing in :-)

Think its working

280 Miles into Scotland. Portable My first time hearing let alone working Scotland
220miles into Norfolk. Base station
314miles down into France. Portable.

Just goes to show when got decent antenna system, where you can reach on 2m when conditions open up

Now started on its dueling of bands to add 6m to same boom.
Finally got the 6m wire Quad element done.
The reflector element with its 25mm box boom brackets and wire spreaders..
Now happy the way that is going after couple failures along line , now time to start think about making the Driver quad 6m element and its spreaders and its boom mounting bracket. And onto to the two directors with related bits to mount it of course.
