I have a bundle of USB to serial converter cables, with 3mm Stereo ends on them, I know some of these are RS232 and some are CI-V. They're not all working as expected, and I suspect I have them mixed up.

Is there a way to quickly differentiate between them when they look identical?

I assume that they all have USB on one end?

CI-V should have a mono 3.5 jack on it, and if it is three wire 232 level it will have a stereo plug on the end.

Also the CI-V will have 0 and 5V and 232 levels are 0 and 12V

They may just be USB to TTL, with a mono plug would be CI-v and a stereo plug would probable be separate TX and RX lines, which would only work in one direction on an Icom radio.

Ir would not be a good idea to plug a 232 level cable into the radio.

Thanks Steve, guess I missed the very obvious difference...

3.5mm stereo jack on RS232
3.5mm mono jack on CI-V

In the end I binned the RS232 and CI-V and went with the Band Decoder option.
