Post 13 pin din plug with relay buffer ?
Guys anyone enlighten me exactly what components are within this 13pin din plug to allow it to act as a relay buffer for an external linear amp ? Must be so small ?! A link to this particular part would be great !

Probably one mosfet and one resistor, I put a diagram on here a while ago

viewtopic.php?f=59&t=101324&hilit=linear+switch

and there is a diagram somewhere.

A perfect thanks for that !

From what I read on the net a lot off owners don't bother with any form off relay buffer be it the ARB-704 etc running the Icom and linear but personally would rather add a bit off extra protection to the set up. Unlike yourself there is no problem off the radio keying the linear up but again would just like to add a simple protection circuit to isolate any potential problems. Would this do what I require and would you think it just replicates what the stand alone buffer would do like the Ameritron arb etc ?

The radio and amplifier should always be at the same potential with respect to ground, why do you need an isolated cable when they will be common regardless?
More Yankee bullshit snake oil, next you will be telling me about how good your voooooooooodooooooooooo audio is. :rotfl:

Okay fair enough appreciatte your own views but surely nothing wrong with trying to prevent any potential expensive repair problems down the line !

Plenty uk sellers selling this type off relay cable so guess they must all be wrong on both sides off the pond ?!

"why do you need an isolated cable"

I think he was talking about isolating a problem, not the radio from the linear :)

Most (if not all) modern rigs have solid state switching for the linear with a warning for maximum current, the mosfet is so cheap and easy, it is good protection to prevent overloading the switching circuit.

Joking apart, but how would it cause any damage?
99% of radio's have an open collector keying circuit so any potential arising from stray RF will be the same on both sides of the system Radio>Amplifier>Radio, I honestly think this is just scaremongering nonsense - I will happily stand to be corrected if anyone can point out that I am mistaken.

Okay cheers buddy !

So this would do the job for me and the exact same job as the arb704 yep ? For the few parts required it surely makes sense ?!

No, not quite.

The mosfet will work on linears that have a DC voltage on the switching line, which is taken to ground to operate, which is probably most of them.

It won't work in all ways like the commercial unit, which at a guess has a relay.

If you want to make extra sure of not overloading the rigs line, add a 680Ω resistor in line with the wire going to the fet, so even it that shorts, the rig won't be damaged.
