 Mobile HF installl
Hello,
The kit : yaesu FT891 and the ATAS 120a
So I’m looking for a bit of help with installing my HF antenna on my l200 2004. The question is where do I place the antenna? I have a canopy over the flat bed but have no problem with drilling as it’s a project vehicle. I understand I have to bond the horizontal surfaces with braid.
How effective would a bracket be on the tail of the truck. The base of the antenna would be approximately 3-4 foot off the ground.
Any advice would be of great help.
Thanks

 Re: Mobile HF installl
Hi use to use an L shape bracket on the spare wheel bracket on the back door i used it a little tarheel antenna and it worked great if the rear door does not have a good earth you could add one to the body of the pick up just make sure the L bracket is strong enough

 Re: Mobile HF installl
I used a Diamond K-400 to good effect with an ATAS for a long long while, there must be a lip somewhere on that truck. Cheaper lookalike versions are rubbish quality compared.

Do you have a (pretend) roll bar on the PU..? The ATAS is a small aerial... I had a Tarheel 400a on a mount I made for roll bar mounting, 400a is far too big for that..!

 Re: Mobile HF installl
Thanks for the replies and sorry for the delay. I didn’t get notifications that there were replies.
This truck doesn’t have a spare wheel on the back just underneath the bed. So unfortunately I don’t have a roll bar behind the cab any more so that is unfortunately out. I definitely do have a lip on the tail at the back so I could try that. I was thinking of fabricating a bracket but didn’t know where to put it.
Plan a lip mount and go from there.
Thanks for the help

 Re: Mobile HF installl
Just come across this thread....how about a 'fender' type mount bolted to one of the wing ( fender ) bolts ? It would mean having the ATAS on the front of the vehicle but i cant see this being a problem !?
