Post Scheunemann paddles
Been thinking about getting a new set of paddles and have toyed with the Scheunemann Dirigent

I like the idea of the engineering quality, but wondered how well they'd perform.

Any users, any thoughts?

I have the Schuenemann Einhebel 2.

This is a single paddle, not a twin. It handles superbly. I've not had to adjust it at all since I bought it last summer. My old Kent paddle was always needing a tweak. The Schuenemann is a different class altogether.

Bottom line: Just buy one!

Thanks for your input Rob

I've had a Kent single paddle for a few years, but it doesn't seem to like being set for a very small gap - the way I like it.
Always seems to need tweeking as I often get additional bits sent which is getting more frustrating as I'm getting older hi

Previously I used a hi-mound dual bought in the early 80's which I still have, hence thinking of going to a dual again.

Dilemma then, is it to be a single or dual -

I have used a dual paddle for donkeys years after a brief spell with a single paddle. I find that a dual paddle requires a bit more skill but a lot less physical effort compared to the single paddle. So it's a dual paddle for me everytime.
I currently use a Vibroplex dual paddle and also have a MagPad made by Tom Withers and a homebrew dual touch paddle.

Great thing about CW everyone is different.
I have dabbled with single and double paddles, but my all time favorite I feel comfortable with style, a decent quality straight forward "up and downer" brass basher.
Product of my initial CW training I guess! :D

The reason I use a single paddle is that my brain/fingers don't seem to want to work a twin! To each their own. As G0BHD says, "everyone is different."

The Schuenemann keys are really very nicely engineered, maybe to the point of overkill. The Kent always needed the small allen scews on the side to be adjusted every week or so. Never had that with the Schuenemann. Apart from setting the gaps to suit me, I've not had to tweak anything.

I use the delightfully named Schurr Portabel Wabbler.

Its a nice solid key that does not wander all over the bench,Ive not had to adjust it since getting it second hand from G3WGN.

Before that I had a Bencher which I also liked, the Schurr is a nicer bit of engineering though and I do prefer it.

A bit more looking and it seems that Scheunemann used to be sold as Schurr Paul - only found glowing comments on the net, still not sure whether to go dual or single.
My original dual paddles were only used like a single as I never used it iambic.

I did try a Bengali whilst back in the UK recently, but although the engineering looked lovely it didn't seem to have the right feel for me.
I do have an old Admiralty pumper stuck on the shelf, just sits there but it's a cracking key if needed.

Funny you should say that Kelvin.I tried both the Schurr and a Begali,Dave WGN had both.I had always wondered what they were like, so he kindly popped in for me to try them.
I didnt like the Begali as much as the Schurr, then unknown to me my Wife got the Schurr for me for Xmas !

I do like the Bencher as well but I'm a bit heavy handed and tend to slap it all over the table :D

Anyway the Schurr is the one I use almost all of the time.

Ive never used a single paddle, only ever dual and I hate ye olde upndowner

Looks like I'll be ordering it next week then :clapping:

How lucky you are Paul, can't see the XYL getting me a key - still can't complain she's just let me buy a ride-on mower.

Will be itching to try the paddles with my old AEA Morse Machine I've just brought back with me.
