I have also never felt the need to join any CW Club. I have listened at times to club nets, frankly have been put off by many of the so called elite operators on how they treat people with skills less than theirs. On one particular net a chap was calling at about 25wpm, and refusing to answer people who were answering at much slower speeds, ie 10-12wpm, his answer was basically "sod off until you are faster". Which i find totally unacceptable. Anyway i answered him at said 25wpm, to be asked to slow down, so i replied at a slower speed "come back when you have had some practice" Keith G0TSH |

I have had quite a few emails from operators who are still learning thanking me for slowing down, they shouldn't feel the need to go around thanking other operators because the speed merchants should make allowances and slow down for them. I think you will find most of the FIST club members will slow down, if they don't then they shouldn't have joined that sort of club. I always remember once when I was calling CQ at about 22WPM and a Russian came back at about 32WPM, so I thought OK, so you want a race do you? So I wound the knob to the right as far as I would go, about 50WPM, he didn't come back to me when I put it back to him, I wonder why? If he had I'm good for 60WPM, what a let down ![]() |

If they didn't slow down, I used to just leave them talking to themselves. Then call CQ a kHz or two away. It's just basic ettiquette. I've come down to 5wpm before now. You have a good chat and then the guy says ''Thanks for my first ever morse QSO'' which kinda makes you feel warm all over ![]() |
