Post New 70cm record, for an hour or two!
This morning there was a 70cm contact between DC4CV and EI3KD. 4163km!
First contact on FT8, then SSB!

A couple of hours later contact was made with GM3SEK. 4544km!
Using FT8.

Congratulations to all involved.

Cheers

Tony.

I worked them just after the EI on 70cms, D44 thought I was still in IO92, came up with New World record!, great contact to Ian.
What next I wonder?, need to get some more activity from the African coastal countries.

Tropo conditions over the eastern part of the North Atlantic were exceptional over the weekend allowing many stations in the UK and Ireland to make contacts with D41CV on the Cape Verde Islands on 144 MHz.
Conditions however were not just confined to the 2-metre band as some excellent contacts were made on 70cms as well.
At 11:09 UTC on Saturday the 28th of December 2019, Ian White, GM3SEK in the south-west of Scotland managed to work D41CV on FT8 on 432 MHz extending the IARU Region-1 tropo record to an amazing 4,562 kms.
It would seem as if this is not only a Region-1 record but also a new world record for tropo on 70cms.
GM3SEK was using 100 watts and a 23 element on 432 MHz for the contact which was mostly over a sea path.

Did anyone inland work the D41 on either 2m or 70cm or was it just stations with a clear sea path near the coast?

Good tropo on 2m this morning with northern EA, SM and OZ all in but no sign on the D41 or nothing further down than EA1 and EA2.

On the 1st of January 2020, the New Year was hardly a few hours old when Callum, GM0EWX on the Isle of Skye in the west of Scotland managed to work D41CV on FT8. This now extends the IARU Region-1 144 MHz tropo record to an amazing 4,776kms.

Last night on SSB I heard D41CV briefly on 144.285. He was being called 59 by G4KUX (IO94BP) who was giving him 51.

I am not near the coast & had to beam North to hear D41CV. Such is the topography of my QTH that South is a bad direction, to receive ED1ZAG last night I had to beam NW.

That was quite a contact from so far east Ant..its been an amazing period of conditions, especially down to D4.

I think the duct was snaking about and appearing in quite localised areas..going over the heads of stations closer and landing in the laps of those lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

Well done for catching it, I still need them on 432 ! :D

So G4KUX is further away than Skye, or am I missing something?

Might have something to do with mode used?
IE SSB versus FT8 etc.?
Not sure, just wondering.
Or maybe the call sign was a misprint, and should have had a M in it? :)

Very true having reread G1PIE's post! :)
It clearly states 144 MHz band record, must read the small print, it was the fact the thread title referred to 70cms records I assume had some people missing that post important point. :)
