Post IARU supporting 50MHz monitoring trial
You can help to stabilise, and possibly increase, access to 50MHz in Region 1 by taking part in this.

It's using the format of a contest, but is actually a study involving the primary (professional) users of the band as well as amateurs.

They're hardly going to get a great amount of activity on a weekday when many of us are at work. Feels like a missed opportunity with that choice of date, even a Mon or Fri would be better...but a Thursday? Strange choice.

They'll be fine just tell them to monitor 50.313 busy all day on there :good:

50.313 is just about worn out I would have thought.

Now if that lot remembered to how use a microphone occasionally.... Well who knows.
And a Thursday, well they would pick one of my 3 work days as well.

Quite a few on the mic today.
Including TA7X in KN80, a new square for me.

Cheers

I know theres some activity, as I can hear this end, but barely hear the other.

Typical 6mtrs. I used to love trying to work out which way the propagation was going to go.
Bit out of practice, so will have to wait my turn.

Condx were really up and down but there were plenty of beacons in, counted at least 4 from Italy and 2 from HB9. A few new Italian ones (personal beacons?) above .400

Post Re: IARU supporting 50MHz monitoring trial
6M has been very active on all modes now the Es season has really got underway.

As last year there is an awful lot on FT8 but there is certainly an increase in SSB & CW traffic this year compared with last, although the majority of activity is still on FT8 where I feel some stick like superglue just in case something new appears.
I do feel the demise of the CW requirements has brought this upon the hobby as FT8 is the only way the vast majority can now increase their S/N ratio compared to SSB and work further distances.

Yesterday there was an abundance of stations from the Middle East on FT8 but only one 4X & one OD on SSB who I had been calling with no luck on FT8 but worked easily with 5W SSB
I did briefly look to the States and saw WA4LOX calling G8BCG many times but was not getting a response so called him and worked him just to let him know his signal was arriving this end of the pond.

I see no reason why we as amateurs cannot use the band in conjunction with the Military. Here I am about 5km line of sight to the French version of Sandhurst.
They use FM in the 6m band on every 100kHz spots from below the band to 50.5MHz, due to proximity I have been station inspected - this was useful as I was able to explain more about my activities which has resulted in them not using 50.100MHz when possible as I prefer CW.

Post Re: IARU supporting 50MHz monitoring trial
Many of us are trying to promote SSB and CW on 6m and it seems to be working, lots more stations on the traditional modes this year and I've worked many more stations on CW than FT8. I tuned to the FT8 band yesterday but it really didn't seem much point when the Italians were +19 and S9 on the signal meter.

But FT8 still has it's place for long-haul DX and I suspect most of the multi-hop this season to USA and the Far East will be on FT8.
