Post LMA-L 33FT PORTABLE TELESCOPIC MAST
Hi All, I wonder if anyone has used one of these masts? I tried a swap on here last week as I couldn't think of a suitable solution to fixing this properly. Its one of those masts that each section is secured by a thumb screw, but on one section thread has gone already although never been fully extended for use,.I have had this for over a year without putting it into use so can't really take it back. The thumb screw method seems a bit iffy at the best of times so if anyone has any idea's I would be grateful. I intend hopefully to put my cobwebb on the top of this secured to the garage wall with t and k brackets and guyed as required. Thanks in advance, Dave G8XDD

A common problem as the screw is going into a plastic thread best to drill a hole thru both tube sections at the required length and put a bolt and nut thru to stop it dropping not to easy for putting up/down but it should stop it clattering down in a heap on the ground with your antenna in a uncontrolled descent remember to mark the tubes so it is easier to aline the hole to fit the bolt.

Hi Peter, OK thanks for that, maybe I should do this for all the screws and replace them all with nuts and bolts, regards, Dave

If you do go this way remember and be accurate with the drilling so that the bolts are an easy fit drill small pilot holes first then if all is ok then increase up to the final size, I would use 6mm stainless bolts and nuts with a final size for the holes of 6.2mm unless of course you have some nuts and bolts of a different size handy but stainless makes for easy removal if required.
