Post 5/8th CB vertical antennas - or not?
I was thinking of having a (cheap) flutter on 10m and was looking at CB 5/8 verticals - which would suit my situation.
I wonder if people have any opinions regarding how well they work, how easy they are to tune a bit HF, how easy they are to assemble and how well they are made?
Apologies if this has been done to death on here before and I missed it all...

Have a look at the Imax 2000, it’s very broadband, works well on 10 thru 12m and is easy to assemble. If I remember right they would tune up and work ok on 20m too.

Any CB antenna will work... If you get the telescopic type (aka silver rod) set it up a little shorter and you'll be away.

I have been using one for many years now for 15, 12 and 10.

I have tuned radial, one for each band, and that transforms it. It outperforms any wire antenna by a mile on 12 and 10, and is usually much better on 15.

The original question on build quality etc depends on which one you buy. If it is only for a test, the cheapest on will probably work as well as any other :)

(I haven't looked at the mcx link, so have no idea what he says about the 2000)

Mmmm. Thank you for the info but the review must be getting on a bit as it says it's 'under £100'. Nevada currently has it for £159.95 but without the optional Solarcon GPK radial kit - another £64.99! - is it really a true 5/8?

Perhaps I'll try a CB 1/2 wave vertical - anyone had one of those? Any idea how they are fed? I'm thinking RFI from all the wiring in house below...

I run a silver rod, no mods.... seems happy enough on 100W.
I did a few turns on the coax as a choke at the feed point, no mains interference either way :good:

I have a Sirio 827. Built like a tank, and a good performer. Not the cheapest, but quality.
