Post Ciro Mazzoni MIDI Loop Info needed
As the title says on the Subject line.
Do we have any operators in the North East of England
who owns one of these antennas.
They cover from 80m-10m.
Do they have any Pros and Cons.
What is the noise level like on 80m.
Do they have to be mounted 30foot up on a mast.
I am using an horizontal inverted V and the Background Noise level on 80 like this morning was around S7.
at this moment in time now 7:55pm Noise Level at S8-9
Will these antennas do well i.e. DX and Inter G.
Its a lot of money to fork out for something thay may do no better than a length of Copper Wire...
Thank You
Keith...

They cover 80m - 20m only, no coverage for 17,15,12,10. they can be rotated to null interference / noise, the narrow band width means they are less susceptible to band noise, mounting is minimum 2.5m from ground anything thing above this has no comparable advantage / gains they are quite directional, they are a beast of an antenna to handle / mount being 78” diameter top heavy and 3” tubing so bare in mind for mounting, rotator etc… I used one for several months and it worked great but each qth is unique ( only sold due to the mrs not liking it :-(

Have a search on YouTube for comparative videos

Thank you Craig, I was under the impression the Midi covered 80m - 10m.
You are correct 80-20m alorra lolly for four bands
The weight issue is worth considering so a concrete pad will be needed for support.
So what is next on my wish list?
Back to research any tips?

Not the loop you mentioned, but I use an MFJ-1788 (40m-15M), just mounted on a camera tripod at about 4-5 feet above the ground. works absolutely fine. I have to use a loop due to masses of QRM from a neighbours CCTV installation.

The only drawback I find is having to re-tune the loop if I want to transmit. For receive you can just set the loop approx. at the midpoint for any given band and it will work well enough, but on transmit the 2:1 SWR bandwidth is fairly narrow.
