I need 2m of pipe and the only pipe that fits is the black stuff from B and Q. Before i buy it does anyone know if it is RF safe or is the black carbon and hence no good for me.? I cant put it in the microave because I havent bought it and dont want to if I can detrmine it's suitability!

Anyone know?

I have tested it in the microwave and it is RF stable, also as an added bonus it is UV stable as well.

That's strange, I've built myself an aircraft antenna made out of conduit and a Tee box and it works well, brilliant minds and all that ;)

Okay answer time boys and girls…

I was convinced that the black stuff is ok so went and bought what I needed. I cut off a few inches and microwaved the section, as well as similar white pvc tube that I have been using for years. Both sample got warm but not hot. The black stuff got softer, though not hotter, so thats probably just the material itself with a lower melting point.

I then rigged my KX2 with it’s whip aerial and found a signal, then slid the tubes (white and black) onto the aerial to see whether the signal was reduced: it wasn’t.

I then tuned the aerial to see whether either changed the swr: it didn’t.

I'm happy!

Ah, now when I needed an antenna for my Auster I seemed left with the option of drilling the perspex and fitting a plane of aluminium, neither of which I really wanted to do. In the end it hit me...I used a dipole centre and made a VHF dipole from wire which i taped to the glazing. Works absolutely fine.
