Hello Colin,
I also run an Icom IC7300 and I have the matching Icom AH3 remote auto ATU which interfaces via a 4 wire control cable to the Icom. They do not make the AH3 anymore, but the more recent version is the AH4. If you can afford one of these, you could then run an end fed wire into it and let the Icom AH4 tune the wire. I use this system on my son's yacht by connecting up the "back stay". This is normal practice in marine circles. I have also used the IC7300 and AH3 auto atu when on holiday, feeding a "W3EDP" antenna; 85ft end fed wire with 17ft counterpoise. Again the AH3 matched it on all bands although it would really need a longer counterpoise for 160m.
The Icom remote ATU's work extremely well with any Icom rig and the TUNE button on the IC7300 will control the ATU when the control cable is plugged into the 4 wire control connector at the back of the rig. Have a look in the manual and it explains it all.

The remote ATU's are not cheap, BUT they interface well with any Icom transceiver.

I use an inverted L at my bungalow, that said it's more of an inverted U, unfortunately the vertical section is only about 14ft, but you do what you can with you've got. That said i'm not doing bad for getting radials out which do make a difference.
