Get on the air for Christmas continues until the 9th of January and there are still many activities you can take part in. The special construction competition encourages hardware, software or kit-based entries and in particular simple projects that other radio amateurs could try. The Christmas Hope QSO Parties are also in full swing with different modes for each day. For more details about these and special holiday nets, at www.rsgb.org/gota4c.

Post Re: RSGB NEWS
The news team and all the staff at RSGB HQ would like to wish our newsreaders, listeners and online readers a very Happy New Year. We would like to remind everyone that we always welcome your news, by email to radcom@rsgb.org.uk, and the deadline is 10am sharp on Thursday mornings. The GB2RS script is uploaded to the RSGB website by 4.30pm each Friday afternoon.

We’re into the final weeks of the nominations process for the RSGB elections, which will end at 2359UTC on the 31st of January. The Society is looking for its next President as Dave Wilson, M0OBW will retire at the AGM. There is also a place for one elected Board Director. In addition, there are three Regional Representative vacancies in Regions 2, 6 and 12 because the current post holders were co-opted into a vacancy after the last AGM. Each one has indicated their willingness to stand for election but applications are also welcome from all RSGB Members living in these particular Regions. For more information about any of these roles, how to nominate someone or for information about the election process, visit http://www.rsgb.org/election. The results will be announced at the RSGB’s online AGM on Saturday the 24th of April.

Get on the air for Christmas finishes on Saturday the 9th of January, but you still have time to enter the construction competition. Projects can be hardware, software or a system and may be based on a kit. There is a prize of £100 and the winning entry will be featured on the Society’s website and in RadCom. The deadline for entries is the 1st of February. See the details at www.rsgb.org/gota4c.

Post Re: RSGB NEWS
RSGB NRC volunteers recognised.
Despite the RSGB National Radio Centre (NRC) being closed to visitors since March, a lot of work has gone on to install or upgrade the radio station set-up and the supporting PC applications in the radio room.

The NRC 80m NET has also run continuously every weekday and a slow Morse training session has been run for the volunteers.

NRC Coordinator Martyn Baker, G0GMB has highlighted the special assistance provided by three of the NRC volunteers to enable these things to happen during these challenging times:

Nigel Spear, G4RWI – the help given in setting up software at the NRC and his superb commitment in running the NRC 80m net each morning
Dave Pearson, G4UFS – helping to set up the OSCAR100 station at the NRC
John Bladen, G4FZA – the help and enthusiasm given with running the Morse sessions each morning

The RSGB Exams and Syllabus Review Group (ESRG) has appointed a new member. Jonathan Groves, M0VRI passed all three exams during lockdown and is a member of Bredhurst Receiving and Transmitting Society. He enjoys HF operating and trying to find trans-Atlantic QSOs from a noisy suburban QTH. Jonathan is also now an active Remote Invigilation volunteer.

The RSGB represents UK radio amateurs both nationally and internationally. Strengthening this representation is part of the Society’s strategic goals. A short video explaining more about this has been added to the Spectrum Forum web page at rsgb.org/spectrum-forum.

Post Re: RSGB NEWS
RSGB election candidates.
The nomination period closed at 2359 on 31 January and we are pleased to report that the following candidates were duly nominated:

President
Dr Stewart Bryant, G3YSX
Simone Wilson, M0BOX

Elected Board Director
John Louis Spurgeon, G4LKD
Rob Wilkes, 2W0HQD
Dave Wilson, M0OBW
Simone Wilson, M0BOX
Christopher Wood, GD6TWF

As there are more candidates than vacancies there will be a Member vote to determine the outcome.

In this election one candidate, Simone Wilson, M0BOX, has exercised her right under Bylaw 4.5 to stand for Board Director as well as President. Bylaw 5.4 sets out a different voting arrangement as a consequence and Members will be asked to vote for not more than two candidates for Board Director. If Simone is elected as President and has the highest number of votes in the Board Director vote then the person with the second highest number of votes will be duly elected; otherwise the Board Director successful candidate will be the one with the highest number of votes.

Nominated Board Director
The RSGB Nominations Committee has selected two candidates to be offered for endorsement as Nominated Board Director as part of the voting process. The candidates are:
Paul Devlin, G1SMP
David Hills, G6PYF

Voting
Voting will open on 17 March and close on 22 April 2021 and will be conducted online by Civica Election Services, as usual. Postal voting will also be available. The outcome of the election will be reported at the AGM which will be held on 24 April. Details about how to vote together with the Candidates’ CVs and Personal Statements will be in the April RadCom which will arrive in mid-March. They will also be available on the RSGB website from 17 March when voting opens.

We would like to thank the candidates for standing and also the 134 Members who nominated Board candidates – the highest number ever for an RSGB election.
