Re: 4m half wave antenna on ebay
Can't be serious? It is a £15 silver rod CB antenna with the top sections removed and a modified base loading coil - good grief.

I know his cobwebbs are hit and miss ,i had one of his and wasn't too bad other than the coax he used in the box for the balun. 2E1IIP wrote: Can't be serious? I couldn't find any information about it , you would have thought the design would be online somewhere.

Re: 4m half wave antenna on ebay
I think the mcr666 Half wave is based on this http://www.70mhz.org/halfwav.htmI built it and compared it to a home-brew double Bazooka, the Bazooka blew the half wave away.

Re: 4m half wave antenna on ebay
Thanks for the info guys , a dipole is out of the question though as its going on top of a mast above a beam. I would like to have seen the actual conversion from the cb antenna.

Re: 4m half wave antenna on ebay
Pity you didn't have a look inside ,I have put the sirio on the mast but it is a bit heavyweight for the top. Have you compared the antenna to anything else?

I didn't notice a weight in the advert so how can you be sure it's lighter. I've a Sirio and can't remember it being particularly heavy. I'll check when I'm home. It's not up as I don't use vertical polarisation. Cheers Tony

Re: 4m half wave antenna on ebay
Its not massively heavy but i only have a light weight mast and rotator ,its the bottom matching section that adds the weight to it . I have actually spent some time tonight making the matching section based on the half wave G6SVN pointed out on the 4m website, after a bit of messing i now have a half wave endfed. I'll get it tarted up over the next week or so and put info on my build on here for others to follow if they want.

Re: 4m half wave antenna on ebay
A bit late, I use that 1/2 wave vertical built from the details on the 4mtr website. Managed most of EU and some others, surprisingly good for a vertical shoved out of the loft window.
I used the top 2 sections of my fibre glass fishing pole that supports the inverted L and a plastic enclosure for the matching section.

Well done on the antenna build, now doesn't that feel better than just going out and buying a simple antenna, you've save £45 I made the same antenna though not built for outdoor use yet as the main section is just wire, it's in my loft and works quite well.

Re: 4m half wave antenna on ebay
Strange my last post seems to have gone missing A photo of the matching section , i used rg316 for the capacitor ,i had to mess with the tapping point and manipulate the coil.
