Post 4:1 Balun power
I have just out up a 135ft OCFD, the balun states 200 watts. Am I safe to assume that's continuous rated and I'm OK for the legal limit on SSB.?

Benefit it tunes with the ATU in the radio on Top Band now.

I have no idea who made it, but I believe it's from the USA and if it helps it has BLUE insulation on the wire and a PVCU round drainpipe Balun (and looks well made).

The G5RV is dead, long live the OCFD.

Is it a voltage balun or a current balun?

Sorry about above, must not come back from the pub and try to be witty.

I have had an idea, is it worth replacing the 30 feet of RG213 with 450Ohm ladder line.? Would it make any difference.? (apart from being less weight).

Al

The point of using an OCFD is that it's a reasonable match to 50 Ohm coax on several bands.

Swapping to "450 Ohm" ladderline would mean using an external tuner and probably more loss because the ladderline will be operating at an 8:1 SWR.

OK, thanks Steve. It certainly is a reasonable match with 33 feet of coax.

By the way - John the vendor / maker states it's a current Balun.
