Post TGM MQ26SR & 2mtr Vine Beam
Hi,

Can anyone advise me the distance apart I should ideally have these two beams apart please and is it best to have the 2mtr beam above or below the HF beam? The HF beam has a 48" deep refector so im guessing this may need taking into account.

They will be above the rotator which will be at 30ft.

Thanks very much in advance for any advice.

Dave

Cheers Kev,

I had a Cushcraft MA5B and loved the fact that every station I shouted to could hear me, then I lost interest in the radio for a while and got rid of it............ :0(

Been reading all the write ups on the MQ26 and thought....... This is the boy for me!!! It has a much smaller footprint than the MA5B but appears to get equal or better reports so im looking forward to getting it in the air! Plus I get a 6m beam incorporated!!

Unfortunately, its not going to be up until the weekend after next as im waiting for delivery of a new mast........... But good things come to those that wait so thought I may as well get a good 2m beam ordered too :)

Hi there Dave,
Not too sure exactly about spacing but generally antennas should be a quarter wave appart of the lowest freq .
Best for sure would be to ask at TGM antennas :
http://www.tgmcom.com/
Brill antennas Still have my MQ1 with the 3rd element add on kit.
Not too good an swr curve on 6m but have made 1 contact for a giggle on 40m to the east side from down here in the S.W.
Its that reflector that I'm not sure about with 2m beams above.
Hope this helps

dave, i had an mq3 up at this location for a long time, as kev said, i think you will find it will resonate on the ssb portion of 2m. it aint no dedicated 2m beam, but it will get you contacts on that band. by the way, i worked the world on mine on hf, great antenna.
all the best with it

Thanks Thomas!! I built the MQ26SR yesterday, although the mast is not coming until the weekend! So now its sitting at about 4ft in the hole that the rotary airer sits in!! She looks a big beast at this height, our lass and the neighbours are rumbling lol

Dave,

It's surprising how big they look low down and how much smaller they look the higher they go; you should explain that to the "lass and the neighbours" - they might then encourage you to put it as high as possible ;)

After the big freeze mine has moved resonance on 20m and 17m to the CW part of these bands, might be the balun but cant look until i get access to roof again .They also move resonance a little on all bands when it rains so i keep the radios atu on as they are narrow banded with 20m more than the others .Mine will not tune 2m ,might be that the balun only geos up to 6m and never tried to tune 2m without the balun .It does tune 80m and is about 2-3 s points down on my 80m loop and a big run of coax here probably helps with the losses on 80m.This one has next to no F/B but a very good F/S ,so mostly only move it 45 deg. Good luck with it Dave hope you have fun with it.

Steve, I am loving your way of thinking..............it could be a like a Bruce Forsyth night on Play Your Cards Right "HIGHER.. HIGHER" oh no its getting windy "LOWER LOWER"

Kev, "Multi plane, cardio vascular outdoor activity centre" oh my word, I can imagine the confusion on their faces lol

Drew, thanks mate, I expected to keep the Tuner on to be honest so not a big deal! Come to think of it, I will have the same problem with regards the Balun on 2m as it only goes up to 6m!! Oh well, the thought was nice while it lasted ;)

I love my TGM MQ36 R it is small once up...
As for 6mts no probs with that band however not as good as I would like it to be.
I did contact TGM some years ago and asked about the 6 meter problem asking how do
I adjust the swr.. No way the whole antenna resonates on 6 and its not adjustable.

Now I have learnt something never realised that my 36R will work on 2m
I have just put the MFJ-259 on her and she does resonates 144.69 @ 1:5:1
4m should work on that band too
Ger in yer little beauty......
