Re: Which Antenna icom ic 7300
I think you may find most wire antennas a bit of a challenge, depends on you neighbours. You might be able to put a 10m fishing pole on your back fence, then take the wire up the pole, then towards the house and over your roof, and secure it in front of the house. Using black starter cord, you will hardly see it on the roof in the front, but depends on your wishes and neighbours opinions.
Otherwise you might have to use a vertical, which won't give as good performance, but may be easier to install
Any chance you can use part of the field?

Cheers That would be fine for the end of the inverted L It would be fed from the far end, and the bottom of the pole, wire would be about 9m up the pole, then the rest towards the house. At a guess, about 1-2m would go past the ridge. Lets see what other suggestions are

Re: Which Antenna icom ic 7300
Cobwebb antenna which is about 9ft square and will be an improvement on a vertical but will only give you 10, 12.15.17 and 20m. Will obviously need mounting on a pole, I had my old one mounted on a pole up at 3m when I lived in my old bungalow and it worked very well indeed. I only had it at 3m as could not get planning permission for it at 8m but cause I dropped it to 3m as the council asked me to do they said it was ok and did not need planning permission anymore.

I would also vote for the cobweb but you could also use the mounting pole as a high point to tie off an inverted L (as suggested ) which should cover most of the HF bands . The key advantage of both antennas is that you can self build relatively cheaply I hope that might be of some use with your decision

Hardly any sunspots, and a small magstorm just to finish it off.

Colin No. When you do the Inter, they'll tell you about sunspots etc. and various things that affect the ionosphere. We are at the bottom of the 11-ish year sunspot cycle at the moment, so the higher HF bands don't 'open' very often. There's also some magnetic stuff about (auroras and stuff), which disrupts things even mors. So if your G5RV is very 'disappointing', it's not just you.
