Post The Silence of the LEDs
The RSGB VHF Manager John Regnault G4SWX describes how he dealt with the problem of a neighbour who used Polluting LED lights that ruined the RF Environment

John says the neighbour had an array of PIR floodlights to illuminate the area around his barbecue. Of course, when he had an event after dark, which was quite frequent, the LED floodlights wiped out almost everything from 1.8 to 144 MHz.

Post Re: The Silence of the LEDs
Wonderful, but I would hardly call the neighbour who buys whatever LED lights from whatever source to illuminate his/her barbeque area "Dr Lecter"!
It's a nuisance to whatever affected Radio Ham, but to the owner merely a useful cheaply purchased long lasting, low power consumption source of light.
What "cuts of meat" he/she chooses to barbeque, and what he/she chooses to "wash them down with", or how often he/she engages in said activities come to that, are not the real problem here.
The "real problem" is the lack of importation enforced compliance to EMC regulations as to what is imported and what degree of strict EMC compatibility they are subjected to before being blindly given the grab them go ahead, or as is often the case simply ignored.
Yes you can dissect and improve any noisy LED lamp with whatever associated power supply driver, (if you have the technical skill), IE the gubbins of many cheap LED over the counter LED flood light available lamps in this country, but how many folks "simply buying them", and getting them delivered, from Amazon and the like, have any clue as to how good or bad for the RF environment they actually amount to?
I suspect 99.9% of folks have absolutely no idea, and don't truthfully give a shit, all they want is suitable lamp to illuminate whatever area.
The problem does not lie with prospective "none the wiser" buyers of this often unregulated shit, it lies well and truly with the folks tasked with enforcing and checking compliance before the items hit the click and pay and await delivery within our country shelves!
