Post sdrplay software - easiest to master ?
guys got an sdrplay rsp1 here that I have still to hook up and get running , reading some off the user reviews on eham.net it would seem a lot off the software to go with these Sdr receivers are not very user friendly and not very easy to master for us slightly older guys that struggle with modern technology !!

so okay anyone advise just what is the easiest software to use that performs well and above all is easy to operate ?

A hard one to answer as all the available software to run SDR has its own flavour and it is up to the end user to decide what is best for them. If you can work your way around a PC with some confidence and find looking on YouTube and on here for help, then you will find SDR quite easy to work with. That is once you have the hang of SDR it all follows the same foundation of which you build upon. I know what I said is like political speech in that I have said a lot but never actually answered the question, but it is like asking how long is a piece of string.

Give there own a trial and let us know what you thing as there are plenty of other options out there, they just take a little more configuring to work with individual SDR systems, HSDR & SDR# to name but a couple. You have now took a leap onto the dark-side of RF and there is no return you know!

SDR Console works fine for me.
Version 2.3 has associated server software, which is what I use for my remote monitoring site.
Version 3 looks interesting but I've not played with it much yet, as there's no server version.
Uno, SDR Play's own software, seems interesting.
Again, no server support so complicates things here.

The SDR Play is a great little unit, have fun. :)

Cheers

Tony

I will never use Simon Brown's software again after he sold HRD. Many people including me contributed every year, and he was even donated a TS-2000 so that he could fine tune the software.

So, he spent much of his life developing it, and provided backup.
The value of a TS2000 I wouldn't have thought anywhere near compensated for his time.
Some contributed to it and, as far as I know, can still use the issues that they contributed to.
It didn't lock out, did it?

Why do you have an issue with him selling it on when he went in a different direction?
You're not forced to buy the new version.

What you use is your own choice but you're depriving yourself of a cracking bit of software.

Cheers

Tony

So the money he received in contributions didn't pay for his time. From the number of regular contributors he must have received a significant amount.
A new TS-2000 was over £1000 at the time, and he never got all the functions to work with HRD, e.g. IRT. I was so disappointed with it that I reverted to using the Kenwood software.
I do still use the last free version of HRD, but only for the logbook.

We've no way of knowing if it paid for his time.

The TS2000 would, probably equate to 3 days work at most.

All I'm saying is, whilst you were paying you got software that was supported, and being updated.
I don't see that he was in any way obligated to carry on with it, as long as you continued to have access to it.

I've software here, that cost me several hundred pounds, that's no longer supported.
If the machine fails I can't load it on another machine to continue using it.
The activation code will not work.
I'll have to get a new version that, in common with many pieces of software these days, I can't buy,
It comes with an annual subscription of a few hundred pounds.
I don't have the option of continuing with an old version.
When the subs run out it stops!

Cheers

Tony

I would also vote for Simon Brown's SDR Console. I have used both Version 1.5 and Version 2 successfully to remote control my SDR receiver over the net. I have version 3 installed on one of my PCs. The visual interface looks great and V3 controls my Elad Rx and a cheapy SDR dongle very well. As has already been pointed out V3 doesn't have a server facility so I can't use it for remote purposes yet.
HSDR also looks fairly simple to use, I have played around with it a bit but keep coming back to SDR console.

Have you tried SDRuno straight from the SDRplay site?
Takes a bit of getting used to but worth the time
There are good videos on youtube

I like the SDRplay RSP1 but i wish i had got an RSP2 (should have waited - shame they don't do trade in!)

I have just got the RSP2 and I can highly recommend it, in fact I am overwhelmed by its performance for the price and SDR Uno is a really easy software to work with.
It gives my top end SDR kit a run for its money, as in the WinRadio G313i or the Flex 5000 to name but two of them, I held back on praise until I had it all worked out and so far it is a winner and much better than some of the SDR offings out there that I have tried and parted with in the past.

SDRplay have very active facebook groups for the SDRplay RSP1/2/Pro and SDRUno software. Mike Ladd KD2KOG is also very active on these groups and has even been on hand to remote into peoples pc's who are having difficulty setting up their RSP's or Uno.

Mike has also done some excellent video tutorials that can be found via the SDRPlay YouTube page.
