Try plugging it in to an external antenna, also try it on UHF as well
There is 5 VHF simplex frequencies and 8 UHF simplex frequencies
http://www.gb7dd.co.uk/dmr-uk-simplex/
Just add DH7 and DH8 on top of these channels in 12.5khz steps
Also you seem to be aware it is a tier 1 radio and does not have tier 2 for repeater use, i have a radioddity GD77 dual band that does VHF and UHF and works great
There are 2 for sale in the sales section on this site

Hey up Gary....We have found the TYTs compatibility to Baofeng on simplex awful, simplex I have worked 45 miles so far on DMR which isn't a world record nevertheless it's 50 miles!

Also remember if you try to get the gd77 to communicate with the baofeng, they might ignore each other because your callsign/id number is in both, the motorola,s used to do this

I did think about that but the Baofeng doesn't have mine in it I I have the 2 radio's with me today at work so will be giving them a try if i get to go out.
the mane problem is my friends Moonraker does not seem to want to talk to mine any of mine it will work through a repeater but that is it.
