Post Feeding digital modes to a none PC connected elderly VHF rig
I have spent the last few years developing a good LF (137kHz) station but put back up my Diamaond 144 MHz / 70 cms vertical on top of my mast at the weekend. I have an Icom IC-290E which is 2 meter including SSB. Is there a way to pipe WSPR signals to it to try digital on VHF please? Thanks.

Yes of course, get a mic plug to fit it and a 3.5mm jack plug for the external speaker and a USB - RS232 adapter and make a simple transformer isolated data interface and feed the line out from the PC into the audio pin on the mic plug, feed the line in on the PC from the ext speaker out on the Icom.
You can use an opto-isolator or a relay to key the rig, the idea is to keep the radio ground sperate from the PC ground to prevent noise and ground loop issues.

I can provide you with an example schematic for the interface I built years ago which is still in use today?

Cheers

Rob.

Hi Rob, thanks for the very fast reply, i would certainly like to see your schematic if that's OK with you? I am at chris <AT> chriswilson.tv

I think I have some low power 1 to 1 audio transformers somewhere, or can get one from RS, cheers! :)

No problem Chris - I will drop you a note when I get home, hold off buying any transformers I have about 20 odd of them lying around, you are welcome to some.

Best

Rob.
